Our Product + Design team’s goal was to create a solid framework that we could build on and support our policy, marketing, development, and editorial teams. Considering the organization’s history and policy goals, many of the strategic decisions rested on finding a balance between (1) audience growth—numbers matter when it comes to changing anything in the world—and (2) depth of the informational and educational content around our issues.
Working in an good-humored and supportive environment was only possible thanks to some terrific developer partners. Each sprint was a conversation that was always most successful when the designers communicated the problem they were trying to solve or the intended functionality from a high-level perspective.
A selected sampling of these projects include creating a voice for our social media channels, doing an overall brand refresh (including the animated logo designed by Kaitlin Kobs), giving people information about how to register to vote, building micro-site city guides, and even the less visible work of updating our framework to React.js.
